Ahsan Manzil is one of the most famous buildings of Dhaka, being the residence of the Nawab of Dhaka. Now designated as a national museum, the Manzil was the where the largest zamindar of the area lived. The architect of the building is simply marvelous. The Manzil is divided into two parts, the Eastern and the Western side. The eastern building, called Rangmahal, has the dome, and the western building, called the andarmahal, has living rooms. The dome is perhaps the most striking feature of this building. The room at the ground floor was given an octagonal shape and the dome arose form slanting the eight corners of the octagon.
A striking Mughal remnant is the Laalbagh Fort, which is also called Fort Aurangabad. Although the fort was never completed, it is a reminders of the rich Mughal history of Dhaka. The fort complex features Diwan-e-Aam, the residence of the Mughal governor of Dhaka, a water tank, and the Laalbagh Fort Mosque. The complex also contains the tomb of Bibi Pari, the great-granddaughter of Emperor Aurangzeb.
